Zgaga Adavances to Final Day of Intercollegiate

WACO, Texas - No. 5 Matija Zgaga won both of his matches Saturday (Sept. 25) advancing to the semifinals on Sunday (Sept. 26) in the HEB Baylor Intercollegiate at the Baylor Tennis Facility.

In his first match of the day, Zgaga defeated Nick Cavaday of North Carolina State 6-4; 5-7; 6-2 advancing to the semifinals. Later in the day, Zgaga knocked off Montana State's No. 4 Fererico Ueltschi 6-3; 6-2 in route to the last day of action.

Barry McLaren was the other Bear participating in singles action on day two of the tournament. He proved victorious in his first match of the day beating Gary Bianco of UT-Pan American 6-1; 6-2. However, McLaren lost his second match to Ian Vazquez-Rowe of UT-Arlington 6-3Ret (ill).

Later in the day, Michal Kokta and Zgaga won their first match of doubles action. The duo beat Irving Morales and Marko Despot of Troy State 8-6 to advance to the quarterfinals. The tandem had their tournament cut short when they lost to the No. 3 doubles team of Fabrizio Sestini and Jacopo Tezza from TCU 9-8.

The Baylor Intercollegiate concludes tomorrow with finals in both singles and doubles. The final two rounds of singles action will lead off the day followed by the doubles final. For updated information on the web, go to www.usta.com.
