WACO, Texas--Fifth-year head coach Todd Harbour and the Baylor cross country teams open the 2004 season this weekend with the Bear Relays at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 3, at the Baylor Intramural Fields. The event consists of teams of two individuals, participating in a relay-style race, with the women running a 2x2-km race while the men will run in a 2x3-km event.

"It's great to get the season started," head coach Todd Harbour said. "It gives us a chance to compete against some other teams while building up for our first team race at the North Texas Invitational."

Runners from Northwood (TX) College, Texas-Arlington and North Texas will travel to Waco, Texas, to compete against the Bears in the relay races.

On the women's side, Baylor returns four of its five top runners from last year, as Brittany Brockman, Lisa Cornelius, Angela Marvin and Monique Ortega return after leading the Bears to a second-place finish at the Big 12 Conference Championships. For their performances at the meet, Brockman and Marvin earned all-conference honors.

For the men, Bo Price and Rob Morrow return to lead a team that finished fifth in the Big 12 Conference last year. Price, an all-conference selection last year, comes into the season after a strong outdoor campaign, where he finished seventh in the 1500-meters and was a part of the Bears indoor DMR team that won the conference title.

Following the meet, Baylor will return to action on Sept. 11, when the Bears travel to Denton, Texas, for the North Texas Invitational.
