Baylor Men's Tennis Honored

WACO, Texas - Baylor head coach Matt Knoll, assistant coach Rob Cheyne and the 2004 men's tennis team were honored on Friday evening at the Texas Sports Hall of Fame.

Knoll's Bears claimed the school's first NCAA team national championship when they defeated UCLA 4-0 in the finals of the NCAA Tournament in Tulsa, Okla., last May. The Bears finished the 2004 season with a 24-match win streak and a 32-2 record. In addition, Benedikt Dorsch was named the Player of the Year and Benjamin Becker won the NCAA singles championship.

Knoll and the team received a Senate Proclamation (No. 487) and Texas Flag that had been flown over the Capitol of Texas in commemoration of the championship. The proclamation is an official act of the Senate of the State of Texas and has been recorded in Texas' historical records to be remembered forever.

Baylor President Robert B. Sloan Jr., and Ian McCaw, Baylor athletic director, also expressed their appreciation to Coach Knoll and his program for their outstanding accomplishments.
