AUSTIN, Texas - Heavy rain and lightning throughout the day wiped out most of the events on the first day of the 2004 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by the University of Texas Wednesday at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Senior Jordan Willmann (Llano, Texas) was able to complete all of the first day's heptathlon events and stands in 26th with 2,922 points. Willmann ran a time of 14.31 in the 100-meter hurdles to earn 935 points and a leap of 1.65 meters (5-5) to earn 795 points in the high jump. She also had a shot put of 8.45 meters (27-8 ?) and ran the 200 meters in 26.38 to earn 764 points. The competiton was even more grueling than usual as the participants endured an eight-hour delay and finished up at 12:45 a.m.
The women's 4x100-meter relay team were the only other Baylor athletes to compete. The team of juniors Danielle Myricks (Willingboro, N.J.), April Holliness (Duncanville, Texas), Elizabeth Wilson (Duncanville, Texas) and sophomore Marquisha Sefas (Ft. Worth, Texas) clocked a time of 44.57 to finish fourth in their heat, but missed qualifying for the final by just one place after finishing 10th overall.
The schedule for the meet has been significantly modified, moving the prelims of the men's 400 meters and women's 400-meter hurdles to Friday and eliminating the semifinal rounds of all events.
