WACO, Texas - Junior Benjamin Becker of Orscholz, Germany has been selected as Big 12 Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for matches from Mar. 16-22, 2004, the conference office announced Tuesday.

Becker continues to roll through the opposition in 2004. The No. 5 player in ITA national singles helped the Bears defeat No. 7 Stanford in Palo Alto, No. 33 Boise State in Waco and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on the BU campus last week. He was a combined 6-0 in singles and doubles to raise his 2003-04 singles mark to 26-8 and doubles record to 16-6. Ten of his singles wins have come over ranked (No. 75 or better) standouts. His most impressive singles triumph last week came when he saved set point three times in a 7-6 opening win over Stanford All-America KC Corkery en route to a 7-6, 6-1 victory in straight sets. In doubles Becker teamed with Matias Marin for a decisive 8-1 decision over the Cardinal.

Baylor men's players have claimed Player of the Week honors four of the seven weeks this season. Becker and fellow junior Benedikt Dorsch have each earned the honor twice and senior Matias Marin once.
