Baylor Head Coach Kim Mulkey-Robertson
Opening Statement:
"We survied and we will advance, but it wasn't a pretty sight. We had to make alot of adjustments with Steffanie Blackmon not playing. We were asking alot of people who hadn't played alot of minutes and we got a little flustered. We won and that is the most important thing."
(On Sophia Young's play)
"Sophia (Young) is an incredibly gifted athlete. What she is learning every time she steps on the floor is the game of basketball. To think that she is only a sophomore and the moves she can make, I am just very blessed to be on her side. There is no question that she needs to step up now and be our go to player. We are not going to make any secrets about her. We are going to go to Sophia. She makes the big plays going down the stretch. In order to survie in this tournament you haveto make the big plays down the stretch."
Players
Baylor Senior Jessika Stratton
(On Loyala Marymount's late run)
"We with held the lead and there wasn't any time that we didn't. We had the lead and we were on the attack side. We didn't have to play defensive and coach encouraged us in that sense, to go out there and play hard."
(On having to match up with the Florida Gators) "We faced Flordia before so we will probably look at that tape. They are a different team than when we played them there and we also have gotten alot better. We just have to look at film and prepare. We know they are a very good basketball team and we have to make sure we bring our best game possible."
Baylor Sophomore Sophia Young
(On the importance of Young's last two baskets)
"I knew I needed to step up big tim.e We were getting into a little trouble turing the ball over and not getting any rebounds. I knew I had to step up and thats what I did."
Loyola Marymount Head Coach Julie Wilhoit
Opening Statement:
"We are extremely disappointed with the outcome of the game. We are so encouraged and motivated by the play of our team in the second half and their will to come back and stick with it and not give up. We really executed what I would call LMU basketball during the second half, particularly on defense. To play a team of Baylor's calibur and to be able to compete, is exactly where we need to be. I think it is a good measuring stick for our program, the future and the direction. Although we leave here disappointed we leave here encouraged and motivated."
Players
Loyola Marymount Senior Kate Murray
(On the Lions confidence and pose during the second
half)
"We came out and went back to what we know how to do. I think that when we started doing that our confidence returned and we started hitting some key shots that we were missing in the first half. We started to flow a little more as a team and thats when we play our best and thats what did it for us."
Loyola Marymount Senior Adrianne Slaughter
(On making a late run during the second half)
"After going into the locker room we talked about how we needed to pick up our defense, play harder on the defensive end. I think we just decided that we needed to step up our defense. That is more of our teams specialty. Once we got that figured out we just rallied around that."
