WACO, Texas - The Baylor men's tennis team will take on two opponents on Fri., March 19 when they host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 10 a.m., and Boise State at 6 p.m., at the Baylor Tennis Center.
The Bears, who maintained their No. 3 ranking in the latest ITA Poll, bring an 11-2 record into the matches. They are led by top-ranked Benedikt Dorsch, a junior, who sports a 20-4 singles record, including 15 wins against ranked opponents. Fifth-ranked Benjamin Becker, also a junior, leads the team in singles wins on the season with a 23-8 record. Freshman Matija Zgaga needs only two more victories to reach the 20-win mark, he is 18-4 this season. In doubles for the Bears, Dorsch and sophomore Ivor Lovrak are ranked No. 16 and are 9-1 on the season while Becker and senior Matias Marin are 7-1 and ranked No. 18.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi comes into the match with an 8-4 record on the season. They are led by 88th-ranked Goncalo Figueiredo, a junior.
Baylor already owns a victory over 33rd-ranked Boise State this season. The Bears posted a 4-0 win over the Broncos in the first round of the USTA/ITA National Team Indoor Championships on Feb. 6 in Seattle. Baylor won the doubles point then won three singles matches, all in two sets, to gain the victory. The Broncos' top player is 48th-ranked Guillaume Bouvier, a senior. Dorsch posted a 6-1, 6-2 win over Bouvier in February. Becker and Zgaga also posted singles wins against the Broncos.
After completing the matches on Friday, the Bears will take to the road for two matches in northern California. Baylor will take on No. 7 Stanford on Mon., March 22 and 23rd-ranked California on Tues., March 23.
