Steffanie Blackmon Named Academic All-District

WACO, Texas - Junior Steffanie Blackmon (Dallas/Rowlett HS) has been named to the 2004 Verizon Academic All-District VI Women's Basketball Second Team, chosen by the district's members of College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). This marks the second year that Blackmon has earned second-team academic all-district honors.

To qualify, an individual needs to be nominated by a school's sports information office and have a 3.20 GPA while either serving as a starter or as a significant reserve. The student-athlete must also be at least a sophomore in eligibility and have completed at least one year at the institution.

Blackmon, a business major, is a big factor in the success of the 19th-ranked Lady Bear basketball program, currently 19-7 on the season and 7-5 in the Big 12. The 6-2 post averages 15.0 points, 7.4 rebounds and 28.4 minutes a game. In addition, she is the team leader in blocked shots. Blackmon ranks among the Big 12's best in several statistical categories as well.

The Dallas native is marching up the Baylor career charts also. The junior currently ranks No. 2 in blocked shots (121), No. 9 in double-doubles (17) and No. 10 in rebounding (622). She needs 86 points to crack the Top 10 in scoring, she currently has 1,293 points.
