WACO, Texas - The Baylor Lady Bear basketball team will take to the court for the first time this season when they host the Houston Jaguars in an exhibition contest on Friday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. in the Ferrell Center.
The Jaguars will enter the contest with four games behind them. They have posted wins over UT-San Antonio (63-61) and North Texas (83-62) and suffered a 79-60 loss to Mississippi State. They will play at SMU on Thursday, Nov. 4 before traveling to Waco.
The Baylor Lady Bears face the Jaguars for the sixth consecutive year to open the exhibition season. Bayor has been victorious all six times. The Lady Bears and the Jaguars first met in the 1999-00 season.
Ten veterans and four newcomers will hit the court to launch the 2004-05 season on Friday night. The Lady Bears, currently ranked No. 8 in the initial USA Today/ESPN Coaches' Top 25 Poll, return four starters off least season's 26-9 squad. Returnees include preseason All-Americans Steffanie Blackmon and Sophia Young, Melanie Hamerly, Monique Jones, Emily Niemann, Chameka Scott, Abiola Wabara andChelsea Whitaker. Chanelle Fox and Jordan Davis return after sitting out the 2003-04 campaign as medical redshirts. Newcomers include McLennan Community College transfer LaToya Wyatt and freshmen Victoria Jones, Chisa Ononiwu and Angela Tisdale.
