HEAD COACH Kim Mulkey-Robertson
On Rice:
"I have been trying to tell you that Rice is a good team. They are going to be very tough to beat in the WAC this year. They matched our physical play with a great post game. They keep it simple and play with in their system."
On the game:
"I thought our kids deserved all the credit tonight. The way they fought through a bad shooting night and were able to pull this win out against a good Rice team - I could not be any more proud of them. I am going to give them the day off tomorrow. We had different players step up for us at crucial times, and that is what you are going to need to win games this year."
Sophia Young, FORWARD
"We had to make sure we did not get down when they went up early. We needed to be aggressive to keep up with them and get back into the game. When we got the lead we needed to do whatever it took to stay in the lead."
Steffanie Blackmon, CENTER
"Early in the game we had to slowly chip away at the lead, relax and get back into the flow of the game. We couldn't panick, so we just had to stay with our game and relax."
Emily Niemann, FORWARD
"My teammates did a great job of getting me the ball for some open shots. I have to give credit to them. I just try and come in and bring what ever is needed at that time."
