WACO, Texas - Baylor football players Paul Mosley and Phil Tran gave Mrs. Speegle's fourth grade class a tour of Floyd Casey Stadium Monday. The students began the tour in the ticket office.
Mosley and Tran took the students to the training room and showed the class the hot and cold whirlpools, the process of taping ankles and wrists before games, and explained how important it is to take care of your body.
The next stop was the weight room. Assistant Head Coach Gerald Carr spoke to the students and told them how hard the football team works each day and that they must always say the magic words `please' and `thank you'.
Mosley and Tran demonstrated their work-out at different weight stations. The fourth graders were amazed at how much weight the football athletes could lift.
The class asked about the mirrors on every wall and Mosley said, "The mirrors are here to make sure that we have the correct technique, but some guys just like to check out their muscles."
The student's next stop was the locker room. Mosley took them to his locker and showed the children his shoulder pads, mouthpiece, and cleats. He told them about the lock box that each player has and that he keeps candy in his box because he loves to eat candy and doesn't want anyone to steal it.
Tran took the students to the middle of the locker room and stood on the BU and explained how Head Coach Guy Morriss stands in the center of the BU and the team gathers around for a pep talk before each game.
Finally, the class ran through the tunnel onto the field, just like the football team does at every game. Tran and Mosley taught the class the chants they recite in the tunnel before each game. One fourth grade student said, "My favorite part of the tour was playing football on Baylor's field with Paul and Phil."
Mosley summed up the tour and said, "No matter what you want to do in life, whether it is playing football or owning your own business, you must always remember that you must do well in school and respect your authorities."
