WACO, Texas - Football players Phil Tran, Damon Dotson, Paul Mosley, and Brandon Whitaker spoke to fifth grade classes at Cedar Ridge Elementary School about what it takes to be successful in life. They stressed the importance of staying is school and working hard at every task.
"If you want to make it in life you have to learn from your mistakes", said Mosley. "You must learn to pay attention to your parents and respect your teachers and coaches."
Brandon Whitaker asked the students who planned on attending college. He said, "If you want to make money, you have to go to college."
The students expressed their concern about how expensive college is and that they may not be able to attend college due to cost.
Dotson said, "You can work hard in school and in athletics and get an academic or athletic scholarship." He emphasized that what they do in the fifth grade will effect what they do in the future.
Mosley summed up by saying, "Take responsibility for your actions and make up your mind to do well in school. It starts now."
The athletes took the fifth grade boys outside and divided them up into two teams that scrimmaged each other. The students enjoyed interacting with the football players and asked for their autographs following the scrimmage.
