Dallas, Texas-Baylor soccer's Megan Sherrell and Anna Schuch were named to the Big 12 Conference All-Newcomer team the conference office announced today. The selections to the newcomer team were the first for Baylor since Melissa Humke was named to the squad in 2000.
Sherrell, a freshman from Balch Springs, Texas, was the only Baylor freshman to start in every game for the Bears this season. She helped lead the Baylor to one shutout on the season as the Bears had a goal against average of 2.01 on the year.
Schuch, a sophomore forward who transferred from St. Louis a season ago was second on the team with six goals and 17 points on the season. The native of Austin, Texas, connected on two game-winning goals for the Bears this year and led the team with five assists on the season.
Baylor ended the season with a record of 7-9-2, 3-6-1 in conference play as the Bears just missed out on qualifying for the Big 12 Conference Tournament, finishing the season in ninth place.
Nebraska's Brittany Timko was named Big 12 Player of the Year while Texas A&M's Ashlee Pistorius was named Newcomer of the Year. Mark Francis, who helped lead Kansas to a share of the Big 12 Conference title, was named Big 12 Coach of the Year.
