WACO, Texas - The Baylor women's basketball team visited the Special Olympic Village in Chisholm Hall at the Waco Convention Center Friday. The state-wide Olympics was held in Waco over the weekend, kicking off the first of three Olympics over the next three years.

Over 1,400 Special Olympic athletes competed in this year's Olympics. Events ranged from swimming to softball. Each athlete enjoyed showing the Lady Bears their medals showcasing their victories.

The Lady Bears visited with the Special Olympic athletes and signed autographs. Other activities included singing karaoke, making arts and crafts and dancing with their new friends.

Liesl Rodenhaver, Director of Marketing for Baylor Athletics, said, "The event was a huge success! The Lady Bears really had a great time hanging out with the athletes."

"They were having so much fun, I had to make them leave so they could eat lunch!"

The Special Olympics is one of the many programs Baylor athletes participate in to give back to the Waco community. For more information, please call Baylor Athletic Community Relations at 710-3073.
