Men Take 1st, Women Finish 2nd at Red Raider Classic

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Baylor men's track team finished first, while the women finished second at the Red Raider Classic Saturday at Texas Tech's Athletic Training Center. Sophomore Jeremy Wariner blew away the field in the 400 meters with an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 45.83.

Five Bears scored in the 400 as junior Darold Williamson finished second with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 46.34. Freshman Mark Teter took fourth (47.81), while seniors Joel Martin (48.80) and Robert Quiroga (49.38) finished seventh and eighth, respectively. The top 4x400-relay team of Wariner, Williamson, Teter and sophomore Jamen Saziru won the event with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 3:07.72.

Saziru (21.71) and freshman Braelon Davis (22.15) finished 1-2 in the 200 meters, while freshman Stephen Harbour (22.50) finished fourth and sophomore Brad Settles (24.21) finished seventh. Sophomore Will Fitts wont he 800 meters with a time of 1:54.71. Davis took second in the 55 meters with a time of 6:37, while Saziru finished fourth at 6.49.

Senior Kyle King (4:10.64) and sophomore Bo Price (4:16.27) finished 3-4 in the mile, while freshman Kevin Mutai (1:09.99) and junior Korey Wright finished 2-3 in the 600 yards. Sophomore Rob Morrow (8:38.54) and senior Matt Chance finished 5-6 in the 3,000, and freshman Dominique Zeigler finished third in the long jump with a mark of 21-11?.

On the women's side, junior Lakadron Ivery won both the 55 meters in 6.97 and the 200 in 24.07. Junior April Holliness finished second to Ivery in the 55 meters with a time of 7.11 and won the long jump with a mark of 20-4?. The Bears took four of the top five spots in the 55 meters as junior Elizabeth Wilson (7.15) took fourth and sophomore Marquisha Sefas (7.17) finished fifth. Sefas (24.73) and Wilson (25.39) also finished fourth and sixth, respectively, in the 200.

Freshman Rena Napolean (55.29) and junior Danielle Myricks (55.71) took the top two spots in the 400, while freshman Lauren Tillman (58.17) and junior Jasmine Opusunju (58.32) finished 5-6. Sophomore Mary Pearce won the 600 yards in 1:24.90, while junior Lindsey Ramey finished third at 1:27.52.

Senior Katherine Duncan (3:03.30) and freshman Brittany McGuire (3:07.39) finished 4-5 in the 1,000, while Baylor took four of the top seven spots in the 3,000. Freshman Brittany Brockman (10:04.96) finished third, junior Jessa Chance (10:12.29) finished fifth, senior Megan McCoin (10:17.08) finished sixth and sophomore Angela Marvin (10:23.59) finished seventh. Sophomore Janelle Mulkey (8.23) and senior Jordan Willmann (8.29) finished 3-4 in the 55-meter hurdles.
