NORMAN, Okla. - The Baylor women's track team scored 51.75 points, while the men's team scored 41 points as the Bears took first on both sides to open the 2004 season at the Oklahoma Indoor Classic Saturday at Mosier Facility. Sophomore Jeremy Wariner broke the five-year old meet record and posted an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 46.80 in the 400 meters.
Sophomore Jamen Saziru (21.78) and freshman Braelon Davis (22.49) finished 1-2 in the 200, while freshman Stephen Harbour (23.02) finished fourth. Freshman Kevin Mutai started his Baylor career in with a flash, winning the 800 meters with a time of 1:55.28.
Seniors Kyle King (8:20.70) and Matt Chance (8:41.80) finished 1-2 in the 3,000 meters. Davis finished third in the 60 meters with a time of 6.84, freshman Mark Teter took fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 48.91 and sophomore Bo Price placed third in the mile by clocking a time of 4:16.83. Juniors Korey Wright (1:11.20) and Will Fitts (1:11.89) placed 2-3 in the 600 yards.
In the field events, freshman Dominique Zeigler finished third in the high jump with a mark of 6-7?, while sophomore Austin Heape placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 46-5? and freshman Blake Havran finished third in the weight throw with a mark of 34-5.
On the women's side, sophomore Lakadron Ivery led the way by winning the 200 meters with a time of 24.78 and taking second in the 60 meters with a time of 7.45. Junior April Holliness also scored eight points, winning the long jump with a mark of 20-2? and finishing second to Ivery in the 200 with a time of 25.07.
Baylor took three of the top four spots in the 600 yards as junior Jasmine Opusunju (1:26.64) and sophomore Mary Pearce (1:26.88) finished 1-2, and junior Lindsey Ramey took fourth at 1:28.10. Junior Danielle Myricks (55.84) and freshman Rena Napolean (56.46) finished 2-3 in the 400 meters, while junior Jessa Chance (5:04.78) and freshman Brittany McGuire (5:18.91) finished 3-4 in the mile.
Senior Jordan Willmann took second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:21.98, junior Katherine Duncan finished second in the 1,000 meters at 3:04.00 and freshman Brittany Brockman placed second in the 3,000 by clocking a 10:05.50. Sophomore Janelle Mulkey finished third in the 60-meter hurdles at 8.87, while Willmann finished fourth at 8.93.
The Bears return to action on Saturday, Jan. 24 at the Red Raider Classic at the Athletic Training Center in Lubbock Texas.
