WACO, Texas - Benedikt Dorsch Ivor Lovrak and Matija Zgaga remained undefeated in singles action on Friday in the H-E-B/Baylor Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament, held at the Baylor Tennis Center. The doubles teams of Dorsch and Lovrak and Jason Gould and Jon Reckewey both advanced to the round of 16 in doubles as well.
Freshmen Zgaga and Jon Reckewey each won their matches in the round of 64. Zgaga defeated Temple's Scott Mize 6-1, 6-4 while Reckewey beat Gonculo Figeiredo of Texas A&M-CC, 6-1, 6-4. In the round of 32, Dorsch, the tournament's top seed, defeated Peter Bork in three sets (6-4, 3-6, 6-2), Ivor Lovrak beat Nathan McGregor (UTA) in three sets (6-4, 4-6, 6-4) and Zgaga beat Carlo Contente in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. The Bears had two casualties in the round of 32. Benjamin Becker, seeded No. 2, was upset by UTA's David Corrie, 6-4, 6-3 and Reckewey dropped his match to Texas Tech's Dimitrio Martinez, 7-6, 6-1. In round one of consolation action, Jason Gould beat West Nott of Georgia Tech, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
The only Baylor doubles team to lose was when Becker and Zgaga lost to the tandem of Akhavan/Coetzee (New Mexico) 8-5.
Action resumes on Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. with second round consolation matches. The tournament will conclude on Sunday with championship matches scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m.
