LAWRENCE, Kansas - The Baylor soccer team lost its fourth game of the season in double overtime when Kansas senior forward Carmel Kaplinger scored the only goal of the game to lift the Jayhawks over the Bears Friday night at No. 19 Kansas' Super Target Field.
Late in the second overtime, Kaplinger knocked in a shot past Baylor goalkeeper Monica Housden in the 107th minute of the game. Kaplinger blasted in a shot off her own rebound into the bottom-left corner scoring her second goal of the season.
Housden recorded a season high nine saves, four of which came in the second overtime despite the loss. Kansas (9-1, 1-0 Big 12) goalkeeper Meghan Miller recorded her fifth shutout of the season, which still ranks her at the top of Big 12 goalies.
The Bears suffered the programs first-ever double-overtime loss. Baylor came into the weekend 2-0 with six ties all-time in double-overtime games. The Bears tied Colorado in their last double-overtime contest 1-1 in Waco in 2002.
The Bears (5-4, 0-1 Big 12) will return to action on Sunday as they travel to Stillwater, Okla., to take on the Cowgirls of Oklahoma State. The game is set for 1 p.m.
