WACO, Texas (AP) - Rashad Armstrong ran for 125 yards and scored two touchdowns Saturday night as Baylor beat Division I-AA Sam Houston State 27-6 for the Bears' 500th victory.
Aaron Karas completed two long passes to position Baylor (2-2) for touchdowns and a 17-6 halftime lead, and Armstrong's 39-yard third-quarter touchdown run put the game away.
Karas' 30-yard first-quarter pass to Trent Shelton helped set up a 7-yard scoring pass to Robert Quiroga.
Karas also broke out of an attempted tackle on a blitz and nailed tight end Shane Williams with a 25-yard pass to the Sam Houston 5-yard line. Armstrong scored on the next play.
Backup quarterback Wade Pate got the Bearkats (1-2) on the board late in the first half. After running 39 yards on a bootleg to the Baylor 20. Pate hit Bernard Campbell for a 20-yard touchdown pass on the next play. The extra-point attempt hit the right upright and bounced back.
Baylor recovered a fumble by Pate in the fourth quarter, setting up Webb's 38-yard field goal.
Baylor began playing football in 1899 and the program is 500-475-43. It was only the second meeting with Sam Houston, both won by the Bears.
Sam Houston is 2-15 against NCAA Division I-A opponents.
