WACO, Texas - Baylor's men's and women's cross country teams began the season in fine fashion with an impressive showing in the MacGregor Park Relays in Houston.
Participants competed in two-person relay teams with each runner alternating laps for a total of four trips around the course. The men's course was two miles for a total race of eight miles, while the women's course was 1.5 miles for a total distance of six miles.
Two of Baylor's men's teams took the top spots. Seniors Kyle King and Matt Chance logged the fastest time over the eight mile course at 40:01 and sophomores Bo Price and Rob Morrow checked in second at 40:21. Mitchell Sanders, a freshman, and sophomore Cody Wells recorded a 41:36 for sixth place. Jason Baker and Chris Boley finished in 11th place with a time of 42:06.
On the women's side, the sophomore duo of Angela Marvin and Lisa Cornelius finished in second place over the six mile course with a time of 34:22. The freshman tandem of Brittany Brockman and Monique Ortega were right behind Marvin and Cornelius at 34:40. Megan McCoin and Erin Dixon placed fourth with a mark of 35:18 while Jessa Chance and Brittany McGuire were sixth at 35:50. Kat Duncan and Julie Gossett finished 16th at 39:29 and Lindsay Price and April Hurst were 22nd at 40:53.
