Men's Hoops Announces Team Awards

WACO, Texas - Lawrence Roberts was named Baylor University's most valuable player by head basketball coach Dave Bliss as part of the school's postseason awards handed out Thursday.

Eight student-athletes were honored by the Bear basketball program following the 2002-2003 season in which Baylor finished 14-14.

In addition to being named MVP for the second straight season, Roberts also received the "Top Rebounder" award. Junior center R.T. Guinn was honored with the "Defensive Player of the Year" award, and the "Freshman of the Year" award was given to forward Tommy Swanson.

Repeat honorees included junior Matt Sayman who received his second consecutive "Mr. Hustle" award, and sophomore John Lucas who took home his second "Most Assists" award.

Junior Terrance Thomas received the "Top Free Throw Shooter" award and sophomore Kenny Taylor was given the "Most 3-Pointers Made" award.

Fourth-year senior Andre White, an academic All-Big 12 honoree, was given the "Academic Achievement" award.
