WACO, Texas - Baylor soccer head coach George Van Linder announced the addition of assistant coach Mario Rincon on Monday, completing his staff.
"Mario is well known throughout the soccer world as someone who knows all the top players in the country," Van Linder said. "We thought it was vital to get him on our staff to make sure all the top players in the country are aware of Baylor University."
Rincon comes to Baylor from Duke, where he spent the last year as an assistant with the Blue Devil women's soccer team. At Duke, Rincon's responsibilities included recruiting, scouting, travel and working with the team's goalkeepers.
Prior to Duke, Rincon spent one year as an assistant with the Miami women's soccer program. His coaching resume also includes three years as a women's assistant at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla., three years as head boy's coach at Pope John Paul II High School in Boca Raton, and years of club coaching with the Team Boca Soccer Club. Additionally, Rincon has worked as a member of the Olympic Development Staff in Florida (1997-2000, 2001-2002) and in North Carolina (2002-2003).
Rincon also served one year as a team administrator and scout for Major League Soccer's New York/New Jersey Metrostars. During that time, he assisted in evaluation for the MLS draft and advance scouting, as well as coordinating the team's travel arrangements.
"Mario's track record in recruiting at Miami and Duke has been great, and we hope to have that same type of success here," Van Linder said. "When Mario saw the Baylor campus and learned about Baylor University, he learned what we all know, that Baylor is a special place, and quality players will want to take advantage of the Baylor experience."
A 1999 graduate of Lynn University, Rincon played three seasons at Central Florida (1990-93) before taking his first coaching job at his alma mater, Pope John Paul II High School, in 1995. He received his NSCAA Advanced National Coaching License in 2000 and his United Soccer Federation A License in 2002.
Rincon joins assistant coach Jean Delaski on Van Linder's staff at Baylor. Van Linder took over the reigns of the Baylor soccer program in December when he was named the program's third head coach.
