WACO, Texas - Baylor freshman forward Sophia Young was named a second-team Freshman All-American by WomensCollegeHoops.com.
The teams are composed of those players that performed the best at their positions and also had a major positive impact on their team on both ends of the court.
By averaging 14.2 points and 10.0 rebounds a game, Young, a 6-2 native of St. Vincent, West Indies, was the only Big 12 player to average a double-double. In addition, she became the first freshman in the history of the Big 12 and former Southwest and Big Eight Conferences to lead the league in rebounding. Young ranked No. 1 among Big 12 freshmen in scoring, rebounding and steals and was No. 2 in blocked shots. Among all league players, Young was No. 1 in rebounding, No. 3 in field goals, No. 4 in steals and No. 14 in scoring. She was named All-Big 12 honorable mention and was the media's consensus freshman of the year. In addition. she set a Big 12 and Baylor record for most rebounds in a game when she hauled down 25 against Auburn in the championship of the WNIT.
