WACO, Texas - The 33rd-ranked Oklahoma State women's tennis team defeated No. 37 Baylor by a score of 4-3 on Saturday. The matches were moved to the Oak Tree Tennis Facility in Edmond, Okla., due to rain and wet conditions at OSU's DuBois Tennis Center.
The loss drops the Bears to 11-11 overall and 9-2 in the Big 12 while Oklahoma State now sits at 14-6 and 8-3. Due to a pending appeal within the league, which will be ruled on Monday by the Big 12 Conference, the league will not certify a conference champion until a ruling is final. Baylor and Texas A&M currently are 9-2 in league play and sit atop the league standings.
For just the second time in league play this season, the Bears lost the doubles point. The nation's 23-ranked tandem of Linda Faltynkova/Katya Kolodynska of OSU defeated Alison Bradley/Daria Potapova at No. 1, 8-5. Oklahoma State posted victories at the Nos. 2 and 3 spots, 8-6 and 8-3, respectively.
Vida Mulec, Daria Potapova and Barbora Blahutiakova earned Baylor's points with singles victories. After dropping the firsts set, Mulec rallied to defeat Linda Faltynkova at No. 1, 3-6, 6-1, 7-5. Potapova won her 24th match of the season with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Katya Kolodynska at No. 3. Blahutiakova, playing at No. 5, came from behind to post a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 win over Zana Masnic.
Baylor's regular season is now complete. They will begin competition in the Big 12 Tournament on Friday, April 24 at the Plaza Tennis Center in Kansas City, Mo.
