WACO, Texas - Baylor Lady Bear basketball head coach Kim Mulkey-Robertson announced Wednesday the signing of Monique Jones to a National Letter of Intent for the 2003-04 season.
"We are very excited that Monique has decided to join our team. We're hopeful she will bring an added dimension to our perimeter game," said Mulkey-Robertson."
Jones, a 5-9 guard from Ferriday, La., averaged 20 points, 10.0 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 3.2 steals as a senior. For her career she tallied 23.0 points, 12.1 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.1 steals a game. Under the guidance of Ferriday High School head coach Lisa Abron, Jones led the team to a four-year record of 115-22. In District 3-2A play, the team posted a 32-3 record, which included three undefeated seasons.
Jones received many accolades in her four-year career as a prepster. She was a four-time District 3-2A first team selection and a three-time District MVP while leading the district in scoring and rebounding as a sophomore, junior and senior. In addition, Jones was a four-time selection for District 3-2A's Female Athlete of the Year. As a senior the talented guard added first-team All-Northeast Louisiana and first-team All-Central Louisiana honors to her resume.
On the state level, Jones earned first-team Louisiana Class 2A All-State honors as a sophomore, junior and senior.
Jones has been named to numerous all-star teams as well. As a sophomore she was an adidas Top Ten Camp Upperclass All-Star and as a junior she was ranked No. 28 by All-Star Girls Report and was a Street and Smith All-American Honorable Mention. So far as a senior she has been named an honorable mention McDonald's All-American and selected to play in the Louisiana All-Star game.
Jones joins Baylor's other signee Emily Niemann, a 6-1 forward from Houston's Westbury Christian, who signed with the Baylor program in November.
