WACO, Texas - WACO, Texas - After trailing by as much as 15 points in the first half, the Baylor Lady Bears outscored the Fresno State Bulldogs 39-25 in the second half to post a 72-65 victory in the quarterfinals of the Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) in Waco on Wednesday night.
With the win the Lady Bears advance to the semifinals of the WNIT and will face the winner of Thursday's Missouri-Colorado State game. Date and location of the game will be announced later. Baylor raised their season record to 23-10 and the Bulldogs end their season at 21-13.
Behind the scoring of Lindsay Logan, the Bulldogs held a 15 point lead, 40-25, with 3:06 remaining in the first half. However, the Lady Bears went on an 8-0 run and entered the lockerroom trailing by only seven, 40-33. Logan lit up the nets for 22, first half points, four of which were from 3-point range.
Baylor stepped up the intensity in the second half and outscored the Bulldogs 25-4 in the first 10:50 to take their largest lead of the game at 58-44. The Lady Bears held Fresno State without a field goal for 11:10 early in the second half, their four points during that span came off free throws.
Fresno State blistered the nets in the first half shooting 43.6 percent but was held to just six field goals in the second stanza and a 16.2 percent shooting percentage.
Steffanie Blackmon led the Lady Bears in scoring and rebounding with a 20-point, 9-rebound performance, she also registered four blocked shots. Freshman Ebony Jackson tallied 13 points and dished out seven assists and Sophia Young and Jessika Stratton each scored 10 points. For the Bulldogs, Logan finished with 30 points and Omelogo Udeze cranked out a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds.
Auburn and Creighton each won quarterfinals games to advance to the semifinals. Baylor must now wait until Thursday to know their next opponent. Missouri and Colorado State face off in Fort Collins, Colo.
