Women's Hoopsters Named Academic All-District

WACO, Texas - Baylor Lady Bear basketball players Steffanie Blackmon and Jessika Stratton have been named to the Verizon Academic All-District VI University Division second team.

Blackmon, a sophomore, and Stratton, a junior, were two of ten players honored. District VI represents all NCAA Division I schools in the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. The teams were picked by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America from District VI. Five players were named to the first team and five to the second team.

Blackmon, a 6-2 post from Dallas, Texas (Rowlett HS), maintains a 3.36 grade point average. The business major leads the Lady Bears in scoring at 17.2 points a game and ranks second on the team with 8.4 rebounds. Blackmon also leads the team in blocked shots with 43. In addition, Blackmon ranks No. 5 in the Big 12 in both scoring and rebounding.

Stratton hails from Colorado Springs, Colo. (Coronado HS), is majoring in journalism and maintains a 3.53 grade point average. The 5-10 guard scores 9.7 points a game while dishing out 3.92 assists an outing. Stratton ranks No. 18 nationally and No. 3 in the Big 12 in free throw percentage (.867).
