NORMAN, Okla. - After the Baylor soccer team jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half, Oklahoma scored four times in the second period to beat the Bears 4-2 Friday in the teams' Big 12 Conference opener.
Baylor (6-3, 0-1 Big 12) struck early to go up 1-0, when sophomore Kristin Ruef knocked in an unassisted goal off the crossbar at 8:14 in the first period.
An own goal by the Sooners just 14 minutes later built the Baylor lead to 2-0 and gave the Bears the halftime cushion.
Oklahoma forward Logan Womack led the charge back, recording the first hat trick in the program's history.
The Sooners (7-2, 1-0 Big 12) tore out of the gate in the second period as senior Krissy Dawson ignited the Sooner comeback with a shot from the top of the box to the left corner of the goal at 58:46.
Down 2-1, Womack took charge and scored just four minutes later. Her shot to the left corner of the net from short range past Baylor keeper Monica Housden at 63:36.
In the 71st minute, with the game tied and the home crowd roaring, freshman Lauren MacIver (Tulsa, Okla.) crossed to Womack and the junior chipped it in off the Baylor keeper for the 3-2 lead.
OU freshman Becky Nelson worked the ball to Womack again in the 86th minute in front of the box and the junior pulled off the hat trick with a score on a rebound off the Baylor keeper to ice the game at 4-2.
Oklahoma finished with a 21 to seven shot advantage over the Bears with eight on goal. The Bears continue Big 12 play Sunday, heading to Oklahoma State for a 1 p.m. showdown.
