FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Junior goalkeeper Monica Housden, a transfer from North Texas, shut out Northern Arizona Sunday afternoon in her first appearance as a Bear, leading Baylor to a 2-0 win at Lumberjack Stadium.

The shutout was the third of the year for the Bears (6-1), matching the team's total all season a year ago. Northern Arizona (1-4-0) managed only two shots on goal on the day as the Lumberjacks were shut out for the first time this year.

Sophomore Kristin Ruef and senior Whitney Barrett provided all the scoring for Baylor with a pair of first-half goals. Ruef moved into a tie for the team lead with her third goal of the season at the 23:44 mark, while Barrett scored her second goal of the year as time ran out at the end of the first half.

Housden, who transferred to Baylor after the school year began, joined the team the first week of September and made her first appearance Saturday. An All-Sun Belt performer last season while at North Texas, Housden left UNY as the program's career leader in shutouts with 12.5.

At 6-1, the Bears have tied their best start to a season under head coach Nick Cowell; Baylor also opened the 1999 season 6-1 before finishing 14-7-1 on the year.

Baylor returns home for a single game this week. The Bears host 13th-ranked SMU Friday at 7 p.m. at Betty Lou Mays Soccer Field as Parents' Weekend kicks off on the Baylor campus. Other Parents' Weekend athletic events include the Baylor-Tulsa football game Saturday at 6 p.m., volleyball against Kansas State Saturday at 2 p.m., and the Baylor Invitational (cross country) Saturday morning.
