WACO, Texas - Baylor soccer head coach Nick Cowell announced Monday the addition of former Trinity star Courtney Petrie to his coaching staff for the 2002 season. Petrie will work specifically with the goalkeepers in addition to assisting with recruiting and other day-to-day office activities.

"Baylor is a good fit for her in terms of personality," head coach Nick Cowell said of his new assistant. "She is a well-organized, enthusiastic person, and will have a huge impact on the program."

Petrie joins the Bears from the University of Akron, where she spent the past season as assistant women's soccer coach. She also spent the past year working with the Greater Akron Premier Club, where she coached the under-14 team and served as goalkeeper coach for the entire club.

Cowell and Petrie have worked together before; Petrie played two seasons under Cowell at Trinity (1997-98) before Cowell came to Baylor. After spending her freshman year at TCU, Petrie transferred to Trinity in 1997 and played three seasons before graduating in 2000 with a degree in psychology.

During her three seasons at Trinity, Petrie was the starting goalkeeper for the Tigers as they won two conference titles and made three straight NCAA D-III tournament appearances. She held opponents to a 0.24 goals against average in 1999 and compiled a career GAA of 0.36, setting both school and conference records.

In addition to her time at Akron, Petrie's collegiate coaching experience includes one season as assistant men's and women's soccer coach at Luther College. In June 2001, she obtained her NSCAA national coaching license.
