WACO, Texas - Alvin Miles has signed a national letter of intent to run for the Baylor track and field team during the 2002-03 season it was announced today by head track and field coach Clyde Hart.

"We are delighted that Alvin is going to be a part of the Baylor Bear track program," said Hart. "He is an outstanding athlete that will help our team immediately in the several areas."

Miles, a senior at Converse Judson High School in San Antonio, Texas in a multi-event athlete that participates in the hurdles, long jump and 4x400-meter relay. As a senior, Miles has been clocked at a personal-best 36.57 in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles and has cleared 7-0 in the high jump. In addition, Miles has recorded a 45.90-second split time as the anchor leg on Converse Judson's 4x400 relay team.

"Alvin is a great intermediate hurdler that will be a big asset to our team with the departure of Michael Smith (2001 NCAA runner-up in the 400 IH) at the end of the season, " said Hart. "He will also help us in the field events as a 7-0 jumper and has the potential to be a leg on our 4x400-meter relay team."

Miles joins a group of seven other athletes, including two from the San Antonio area (Shanta Bibbs and Janelle Mulkey) that signed with the Baylor's track and field program during the early signing period.
