WACO, Texas - Baylor track and field sprinter Barbara Petrahn was named the Big 12 Conference women's track athlete of the week it was announced today by the conference office. Petrahn is the first Baylor athlete to receive such accolades this season.
Petrahn, as senior from Gyor, Hungary, swept the 100- and 200-meter races last Thursday at the Texas A&M All-Comers meet in College Station. Provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in both events, Petrahn crossed the finish line with a time of 11.44 seconds in the 100 meters and 23.47 seconds in the 200 meters. Petrahn's time in the 100 currently ranks second in the Big 12, while her mark in 200 is third.
A two-time defending Big 12 Conference champion in the outdoor 400 meters, Petrahn looks to defend that individual crown this weekend, May 17-19, at the conference championships in Columbia. Mo.
