COMING UP...
The Lady Bears ride a five-game Big 12 winning streak going into the Oklahoma game while the league-leading Sooners have won four in a row. Of Baylor's seven remaining Big 12 games, five are against ranked teams. They will face No. 4 Oklahoma, No. 15 Texas Tech, Texas A&M, No. 17 Texas, No. 13 Colorado and No. 12 Iowa State.
THE LADY BEARS...
Baylor, 18-3, 6-3, remained at No. 10 in the Associated Press poll after winning two games last week. Baylor defeated Nebraska and Oklahoma State at home. The Lady Bears started the season ranked No. 14. In addition, they slipped one spot to No. 12 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches' Poll.
Twenty-one games into the season the Lady Bears are led by all-American candidates seniors Sheila Lambert (Seattle, Wash./Chief Sealth HS) and Danielle Crockrom (Houston/North Shore HS). Lambert leads the way with 19.6 points per game, while Crockrom follows at 16.5. Crockrom leads the team in rebounding at 9.2 an outing. Freshman post Steffanie Blackmon (Dallas/Rowlett HS) follows with 9.9 points and 5.3 rebounds a game while sophomore Chanelle Fox (Houston/Westfield HS) also hauls down 5.2.
THE OPPOSITION...
Oklahoma Sooners The Oklahoma Sooners, 18-2 overall and 8-1 in league play, come into the game with a four-game winning streak. They have won two consecutive Big 12 titles and currently sit atop the conference standings, one game ahead of Kansas State. They are undefeated this season at home with an 8-0 record. Their lone league loss came at Iowa State 82-66. Their only other loss this season came at the hands of top-ranked Connecticut, 86-72.
Four Sooners are averaging in double figures. Guard LaNeishea Caufield leads the team at 18.8, while Stacey Dales follows at 16.9, Caton Hill at 13.1 and Rosalind Ross with 11.8. Hill, a 6-1 junior forward, leads the team in rebounding at 7.4 a game.
THE COACHES...
Baylor's Kim Mulkey-Robertson is in her second year as a head coach after guiding the Lady Bears to a 21-9 record and the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament in her inaugural season. The Lady Bears enjoyed tremendous improvement last season over Baylor's 7-20 record of 1999-2000. Her career record is 39-12 (.765).
Oklahoma is coached by Sherri Coale. She is in her sixth season as the Sooners' head coach. Coale is 99-71 (.582) in her six seasons at Oklahoma.
