#21 Women's Tennis Hosts #55 SMU

WACO, Texas - The Bears play host to the No. 55 SMU Mustangs Wednesday, February 20 at 2 p.m. at the Baylor Tennis Center. This willl be the women's third home match this spring season and the fifth ranked opponent Baylor has played this year.

SMU women's tennis team fell to 3-3 Friday afternoon in Lubbock, Texas, dropping a tough neutral-site match to No. 26 Florida International. Baylor beat SMU last season, 5-2, in Waco. The Bears took the doubles point then went on to take four of six singles matches.

Kovac Named Preseason All-Big 12...
Senior Katja Kovac was the only Baylor women's tennis player to receive preseason All-Big 12 honors in a vote of league coaches. Kovac, a native of Ljubljana, Slovenia, is currently ranked No. 29 nationally. She ended her fall season with a 12-5 record and made it to the finals of the ITA Regionals.

Baylor in the Rankings...
The latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings, released Jan. 30, placed the Baylor women's team at No. 21 dropping one spot from No. 20. The Bears are currently 4-2 on the season after losing tough matches to No. 5 Georgia by a score of 6-1 and No. 11 Washington with a score of 4-3 and defeating #23 TCU, 4-3. In the ITA Top 100 individual rankings released on Dec. 12, two Lady Bears received rankings. Senior Katja Kovac came in at No. 29, while junior Vida Mulec checked in at No. 43. In doubles, the lone team of Kovac/Mulec were projected at the No. 25 spot. New ream and individual rankings will be released on Wed., Feb. 20

Simply the Best...
The Bears have seven teams on their 2002 spring schedule that started their season off ranked in the top 25.
