COMING UP...
The Lady Bears, currently 19-4, 7-4, have won six of their last seven Big 12 games which includes their most recent victory, an 85-69 win over Texas Tech. The win snapped a 39-game losing streak to the Red Raiders.
THE LADY BEARS...
Baylor, 19-4, 7-4, after losing to No. 4 Oklahoma and posting at 16-point victory over No. 15 Texas Tech, slipped one spot to No. 11 in the Associated Press poll. The Lady Bears started the season ranked No. 14. Baylor moved up one spot to No. 11 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches' Poll.
The Lady Bears shot an impressive season-high 61.4 percent (35-of-57) from the floor against Texas Tech, including a phenomenal 82.1 percent (23-of-28) in the second half. In addition, Danielle Crockrom was 14-of-15 from the floor in the game.
Twenty-three games into the season the Lady Bears are led by all-American candidates seniors Sheila Lambert (Seattle, Wash./Chief Sealth HS) and Danielle Crockrom (Houston/North Shore HS). Lambert leads the way with 19.5 points per game, while Crockrom follows at 17.1. Crockrom leads the team in rebounding at 9.2 an outing. Freshman post Steffanie Blackmon (Dallas/Rowlett HS) follows with 10.0 points and 5.3 rebounds a game while sophomore Chanelle Fox (Houston/Westfield HS) also hauls down 4.9.
THE OPPOSITION...
Texas A&M Aggies The Texas A&M Aggies are 12-11 overall and 4-7 in Big 12 play. Two of those Big 12 wins have come against ranked teams in Reed Arena (Iowa State & Texas). The Aggies are 7-5 on their home court this season and are 2-3 in Big 12 games.
Three Aggies are averaging in double figures. Junior forward Meg Banahan leads the team with 11.5 points a game while senior guard LaToya Rose is right behind her with 11.0 a game. Completing double figure scoring is junior forward Kim Moore at 10.5 a game. Moore and guard Toccara Williams share team rebounding honors with 5.6 each a game. Williams dishes out a league-leading 6.48 assists a game.
THE COACHES...
Baylor's Kim Mulkey-Robertson is in her second year as a head coach after guiding the Lady Bears to a 21-9 record and the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament in her inaugural season. The Lady Bears enjoyed tremendous improvement last season over Baylor's 7-20 record of 1999-2000. Her career record is 40-13 (.755).
Texas A&M is coached by Peggie Gillom. She is in her fourth season as the Aggies' head coach. Gillom is 42-63 (.400) in her four seasons at Texas A&M.
