WACO, Texas - The Baylor Lady Bears closed out their non-conference schedule with an 83-49 victory over North Texas in the Ferrell Center on Monday night as part of a doubleheader with the Baylor and North Texas men's teams.
The victory moves Baylor's season record to 11-1 while North Texas drops to 4-5.
Freshman Sophia Young came off the bench for Baylor and scored a career-high 17 points. Junior guard Jessika Stratton narrowly missed her second straight double-double with a 15 point, nine rebound performance. She also dished out six assists and registered two steals. Sophomore Steffanie Blackmon and freshman Chameka Scott also scored in double figures with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Scott's 11 points were a career high.
The Lady Bears dominated the boards, 51-38 and tallied 18 steals and eight blocked shots in the victory. They shot 41.5 percent from the floor and were 89.7 percent (26-29) from the free throw line which was a team season high.
North Texas had three players score in double figures. Angel Lewis led the Lady Eagles with 16 points. Erika Bobo scored 12 and Vilma Grismanauskiate added 10. Jamie Armstrong led North Texas on the boards with eight.
The Lady Bears next game will be in the Ferrell Center on Wed., Jan 8 at 7 p.m. when they open Big 12 Conference play against Missouri.
