Lady Bears Defeat Southeastern Louisiana

HAMMOND, La. - The Baylor Lady Bears, playing their third game in four days, defeated Southeastern Louisiana 70-55 on Monday night in Hammond, La. They finish the seven-day road trip with a 2-1 record and are now 5-1 on the season.
After trading the lead back and forth in the first half, Baylor took the lead for good at the 3:14 mark on a steal and layup by junior guard Jessika Stratton. The Lady Bears went into the lockerroom at the half with a 37-33 lead. Steffanie Blackmon scored the bulk of Baylor's points in the first half with 16.
The Lady Bears went on to lead by as much as 18 in the second half behind a career-high 30 points by sophomore post Steffanie Blackmon. Sophomore post Melanie Hamerly and Stratton each scored 10 points for Baylor. Sophomore point guard Chelsea Whitaker narrowly missed a triple-double with 8 points, 8 assists and 8 rebounds.
Three Southeastern players scored in double figures. The Lady Lions were led by Velicity Burkhalter who came off the bench to score 14. Pam Mathews and Shanna Achord each tallied 13. The loss drops Southeastern Louisiana to 1-2 on the season.
Having completed a seven-day, three game road trip, the Lady Bears will now return to the friendly confines of the Ferrell Center for three home games. First up for the Lady Bears will be Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Thurs., Dec. 5 at 7 p.m.
