Baylor women post eighth victory

WACO, Texas - Freshman point guard Ebony Jackson came off the bench to lead Baylor with a career-high 17 points in the Lady Bear's 84-40 victory over UT-Pan American in the Ferrell Center.

The Lady Bears shot 51.7 percent (18-of-31) for the game. They have shot better than 50 percent in four of their five home games this year. Baylor, led by freshman Sophia Young's eight rebounds, out rebounded the Lady Broncs 40-27. The Lady Bears force 27 Lady Bronc turnovers and scored 36 points off turnovers.

Jackson, a 2002 graduate of Arlington's Sam Houston High School, bested her previous high of six points by halftime, when she already had 10 points. She also set a season/career high with five steals, the most by a Baylor player this year. She was a perfect 6-for 6 from the floor, 2-of-2 from 3-point range.

Three other Lady Bears recorded double digit scoring. The team's lone senior Stasha Richards scored 13, Steffanie Blackmon tallied 12 and Chelsea Whitaker managed 11.

Clarissa Arredondo and Naima Williams each scored eight points to lead UT-Pan American. Julie Porter led the Lady Bronco in rebounding with 10.

Baylor's record now stands at 8-1 while the Lady Broncs fall to 0-7. Baylor will travel to southern California to play UCLA on Thurs., Dec. 19 at 9 p.m. CST.
