THE LADY BEARS...

Sophomore post Melanie Hamerly (Orange, Texas/Little Cypress/Mauriceville HS) averages 11.4 a game. Freshman Sophia Young (St. Vincent, West Indies/Evangel Academy, Shreveport, La.) follows closely with 10.4 an outing and junior guard Jessika Stratton (Colorado Springs, Colo./Coronado HS) scores 10.7 a contest.
Young, a 6-0 freshman, is the Lady Bears' leading rebounder grabbing 8.7 a game. Steffanie Blackmon is close behind with 7.9 an outing.
Chelsea Whitaker (Dallas/Skyline HS) leads the squad in assists with 6.86 a game. Stratton ranks in second with 4.71 a contest.

In addition, Chelsea Whitaker hauled down a career-high and team-high eight rebounds against Southeastern Louisiana. She narrowly missed a triple-double against the Lady Lions with eight points, eight rebounds and eight assists.
A YOUNG BUNCH...
The Lady Bears are an extremely young team. After losing four senior starters last season and Chanelle Fox not able to return to the court until last week, Baylor had no returning starters. This week Coach Mulkey is starting a senior (Stasha Richards), a junior (Jessika Stratton), two sophomores (Steffanie Blackmon and Chelsea Whitaker) and a freshman (Sophia Young).
Of Baylor's four players that average in double figures in scoring, Stratton is the only upperclassman. Two sophomores, Steffanie Blackmon and Melanie Hamerly, rank No. 1 and 2, Sophia Young, a freshman, is No. 3 and Stratton, a junior, is No. 4.
The roster sports one senior (Stasha Richards), three juniors (Dionne Brown, Chanellle Fox, Stratton), five sophomores (Steffanie & Tiffanie Blackmon, Jordan Davis, Melanie Hamerly, Chelsea Whitaker) and four freshmen (Ebony Jackson, Chameka Scott, Abiola Wabara, Sophia Young).
