Bears Hold Off Louisiana-Monroe, 79-74

WACO, Texas (AP) - John Lucas scored 18 points and Lawrence Roberts added 17 points and 13 rebounds to lead Baylor to a 79-74 victory over Louisiana-Monroe on Wednesday night.

Baylor (5-1) used a couple of runs in the second half to take the lead and hold it. Down 44-38, the Bears went on a 13-3 run and went ahead 51-47 on Ellis Kidd's 3-point basket with just under 13 minutes left.

Louisiana-Monroe (1-3) closed to 61-60 on a 3-pointer by Reggie Griffin with 5 minutes left, but Baylor scored seven straight points over next three minutes and then hit nine of 10 free throws in the final minute to ice the victory.

Terrance Thomas had 13 points and 11 rebounds for Baylor.

Kirby Lemons led Louisiana-Monroe with 18 points, while Mark Keith added 11 points and Reggie Griffin 10.

Erratic shooting plagued Baylor in the first half as the Bears shot 28 percent with a nine for 32 effort, while Louisiana-Monroe hit 13 of 28 for 46 percent.
