THE LADY BEARS...
By winning the four-team Women's Sports Foundation Tournament the Lady Bears are a perfect 4-for-4 in tournaments under head coach Kim Mulkey-Robertson.
Steffanie Blackmon (Dallas/Rowlett HS), Chelsea Whitaker (Dallas/Skyline HS) and Sophia Young (St. Vincent, West Indies/Evangel Academy/Shreveport, La.) each earned all-tournament team honors. Blackmon was named the tournament's MVP. In victories over Princeton and Alcorn State, Blackmon, a 6-2 sophomore post, averaged 21.0 points and 6.5 rebounds. Young, a 6-1 freshman forward, averaged a double-double with 10.5 points and 10.5 rebounds a game. Whitaker, a 5-9 sophomore guard, came in to spark the Lady Bears and registered 9.5 points and 5.5 assists a game. In addition, junior guard Jessika Stratton (Colorado Springs, Colo./Coronado HS) averaged 13.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists for the two games. Rounding out double-digit scoring for the Lady Bears for the weekend was 6-5 sophomore post Melanie Hamerly (Orange/Little Cypress-Mauriceville HS) with 10.5 points. She also averaged 5.5 rebounds and 4.5 blocks in the two games.
TEN PLAYERS AVAILABLE...
