WACO, Texas - Four Lady Bears reached double figures as Baylor walked away from the Ferrell Center Thursday night with a decisive 91-62 victory over visiting RTU-Klondaika in the Lady Bears exhibition finale.
The Lady Bears led by as many as 19 points three times in the opening period behind 7-of-14 shooting from the floor and 18 total first-half points from sophomore Steffanie Blackmon. Senior Shasha Richards added 10 first-half points as Baylor took a 48-34 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Blackmon finished as the game's leading scorer with 26 points. Richards added 12, and sophomores Jordan Davis and Melanie Hamerly recorded 14 points each as the Lady Bears exended their 14-point halftime lead to a 29-point victory.
Blackmon recorded a double-double as she also grabbed 10 boards to lead the Baylor squad, which held a slight 38-37 rebounding edge over the visitors.
Junior Jessika Strattton unselfishly dished out a game-high 10 assists. Ball movement was a key to the offensive success as 31 of the Lady Bears' 36 scores were assisted baskets.
After two exhibition victories, the Lady Bears open the regular season at home, hosting the Women's Sports Foundation Tournament at the Ferrell Center on Nov. 22-23. Action begins on Friday, Nov. 22 with Alcorn State meeting Southwest Texas at 6 p.m. The Lady Bears tip off against Princeton in the nightcap at 8 p.m. On Saturday, Nov. 23 the consolation game is slated for 6 p.m., while the Friday winners will face-off for the tournament title in the finale at 8 p.m.
