LADY BEARS VS. THE TRAVELERS...
The Lady Bears will play their final exhibition game when they host RTU-Klondaika at 7 p.m., Nov. 14 in the Ferrell Center. RTU Klondaika is based out of Riga, Latvia and is one of the best women's basketball teams in Latvia and the Baltic Region.

Baylor's game with RTU-Klondaika is the seventh of an eight-game swing through Texas, and its trip to the USA has been arranged by the Basketball Travelers.

Coach Aivars Vinbergs is also the head coach of the Latvian National team. Zane Teilane, a 19-year old 6-6 center, and Inara Jakobsone, a 31-year old 6-0 forward, both currently play for the Latvian National Team.

The Latvian team is winless so far on their Texas tour. They will play at Texas A&M on Wed., Nov. 13 prior to coming to Waco. They have suffered losses to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (65-60), Texas (93-27), TCU (95-59) and Stephen F. Austin (67-63).

PROMOTIONS...
All fans bringing a new unwrapped toy will receive free admission to the game. All toys received will be donated to the Santa's Workshop Toy Drive. In addition, all youngsters 18 and under will receive admission for $1.

THE LADY BEARS...
In their first appearance of the season, the Lady Bears posted an 83-63 exhibition victory over the visiting Houston Jaguars on Tues., Nov. 5.

Sophomore Steffanie Blackmon (Dallas/Rowlett HS) led the way for the Lady Bears points and 11 rebounds. The 6-2 post was 9-of-16 from the floor and 11-of-14 from the free throw line, blocked three shots and tallied four steals. Another sophomore, Jordan Davis (Celina/Celina HS), poured in 21 points which included 3-of-5 from 3-point range. She was a perfect 4-of-4 from the charity stripe and registered five steals as well. Rounding out double-digit scoring for the Lady Bears was junior captain Jessika Stratton (Colorado Springs, Colo./Coronado HS) with 13 points. She also added six assists and seven rebounds.

SEASON OPENER FOR THE LADY BEARS...
The Lady Bears will open their 2002-03 regular season by hosting the Women's Sports Foundation Tournament. Baylor, along with the Women's Sports Foundation and Basketball Travelers, Inc. will co-produce the event.

Funds raised at this event help support the Foundation's grants and awards programs that encourage girls and women's sports and fitness participation on both the grassroots and elite levels. These funds will also help the Foundation support research and programs that educate the public about the benefits of women's sports and fitness involvement.

Joining Baylor in the four-team tournament are Alcorn State, Princeton and Southwest Texas State.

Alcorn State, a member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference, was 15-12 last season and returns two starters for head coach Shirley Walker. Walker begins her 25th season at the helm of the Lady Brave program.

Princeton, coached by Richard Barron, returns four starters off a team that posted a 11-16 record last season. The 2002-03 season marks Barron's second season as Princeton's head coach.The Tigers are a member of the Ivy League.

Just traveling up I-35 for the tournament are the Southwest Texas State Bobcats. Suzanne Fox heads into her sixth season as the Bobcats' head coach. Southwest Texas was 12-16 last season and returns four starters and 10 letterwinners off that squad. Former Lady Bear Heather Burrow redshirted for the Bobcats last season and is eligible this season.
