TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Baylor cross country squads competed at the Asics/Pacesetter Pre-Nationals today at the LaVern Gibson Course at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center in Terre Haute, Ind. The event was held at the site of the 2002 NCAA Championships.
The men's team accumulated a total of 425, taking 16th place in the 36-team race. No. 3 Colorado took the team title with a total of 87. Junior Matt Chance paced the men. He finished the 8K race with a time of 24:34 to take 28th place. Senior Kyle King to 68th place with a time of 25:01. Finishing five seconds behind King was newcomer Rob Marrow. At 25:06, Marrow finished 76th. Sophomore Sam Bernal recorded a time of 25:28 to finish 119th. Rounding out the scoring for the Bears was freshman Bo Price. He took 134th place with a time 25:36. Junior Nick Davenport (174th; 25:56) and freshman Cody Wells (198th; 26:09).
Senior Debbie Thornhill continued to pace the women's squad. She has finished in the Top 20 in every race she has competed in this season. She took 19th place with a time of 20:55 in the 6K race. Big 12 Runner of the Week Angela Marvin was the next finisher for the Bears. The Freshman took 70th place with a time of 21:46. Senior Leah Marbach clocked a 22:19 to finish 132nd. Sophomore Jessa Vacek took 162nd place with a time of 22:37. Junior Megan McCoin finished in 22:44 to take 167th place. Sophomore Emily Bonilla also competed in the race, finishing 214th with a time of 23:27. Overall the women's squad finished 23rd in the 37 team race. Baylor accumulated a score of 550, just one point shy of Cornell. No. 2 Stanford won the race with a team total of 57.
The Bears return to action when they travel to the Houston Invitational on Oct. 23.
