COMING UP...
After playing three of their first five Big 12 games on the road, the Lady Bears will play six of their next nine league games in the friendly confines of the Ferrell Center. Baylor brings a 14-3 season record and 2-3 Big 12 mark into the contest. Texas A&M is 10-7 overall and 2-3 in conference action.
THE LADY BEARS...
Baylor, 14-3, 2-3, slipped two spots to No. 15 in the Associated Press poll after losing on the road to No. 15 Texas Tech and defeating Missouri in Columbia. The Lady Bears started the season ranked No. 14. In addition, they dropped to No. 14 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches' Poll.
Seventeen games into the season the Lady Bears are led by all-American candidates seniors Sheila Lambert (Seattle, Wash./Chief Sealth HS) and Danielle Crockrom (Houston/North Shore HS). Lambert leads the way with 19.2 points per game, while Crockrom follows at 16.9. Crockrom leads the team in rebounding at 9.8 an outing. Freshman post Steffanie Blackmon (Dallas/Rowlett HS) follows with 9.2 points and 5.4 rebounds a game while senior post Brooke McCormack (Melbourne, Australia) checks in at 5.1 a game.
THE OPPOSITION...
Texas A&M
The Texas A&M Aggies come into the game with a 2-3 league record and are 10-7 on the season. This will be the Aggies' fourth league road game in six games. They have posted victories over Kansas (58-51) and Iowa State (88-71) and lost to Nebraska (77-73), Kansas State (66-61) and Colorado (88-70).
Meg Banahan, LaToya Rose and Toccara Williams are all averaging double-digits in scoring. Banahan, a 6-0 junior forward, leads the Aggies with 11.7 points a game. Rose, a 5-6 senior guard, scores 10.7 a game and Williams, a 5-9 sophomore guard, averages 10.2 a game. Williams leads the team in scoring at 5.5 a game while Kim Moore, 6-0 junior forward, hauls down 5.1 boards a game.
THE COACHES...
Baylor's Kim Mulkey-Robertson is in her second year as a head coach after guiding the Lady Bears to a 21-9 record and the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament in her inaugural season. The Lady Bears enjoyed tremendous improvement last season over Baylor's 7-20 record of 1999-2000. Her career record is 35-12 (.745).
Texas A&M is coached by Peggie Gillom. She is in her fifth season as the Aggies' head coach. Gillom is 40-59 (.404) in her five seasons at Texas A&M.
