WACO, Texas - Baylor's Big 12 Conference-opening men's basketball game against defending league champion Iowa State on Jan. 5, 2001, has been sold out, Associate Athletic Director Darryl Lehnus announced Friday.
There are no individual game tickets remaining for sale, though seating is available for Baylor students and staff.
"We are excited that the Waco community has responded to the efforts of our volunteers and purchased all available tickets to the Iowa State game," Lehnus said. "This game is an excellent opportunity for Baylor, in front of a regional television audience and against the conference's two-time defending champs, to demonstrate the fan support it receives from the students and the community of Waco."
The Jan. 5 game, the first league game for both schools, is part of Baylor's "Sellout 2002, Back-2-Back" program. The campaign is continuation of the Sellout 2001 effort which resulted in a record crowd and home win over Colorado in the men's Big 12 opener last season.
Saturday's game will be telecast live from the Ferrell Center by Fox Sports Net Southwest at 5 p.m. CST.
Last season's inaugural Sellout 2001 resulted in the second-highest attended game in Ferrell Center history, a crowd of 10,183 that witnessed the Bears' 61-56 win over Colorado in January. This marks the fourth sellout ever of the Ferrell Center, which opened in 1988, and the third for a men's basketball game.
This season's Back-2-Back campaign includes an effort to sell out Baylor's women's game against Oklahoma on Jan. 12. Similar to last year's effort, Sellout 2002 has been fueled by a grassroots effort of local businesspersons, grouped in committees. The chairman for the men's campaign committee is Johnny Mankin of Time-Warner Cable in Waco.
