Women's Hoops Game Notes vs. Oklahoma

COMING UP...
In a matchup between two ranked teams, No. 12 Baylor and No. 4 Oklahoma both come into the contest with 13-1 season records although Oklahoma is 3-0 in Big 12 action while Baylor is 1-1. In addition, the game features four of the top players in the league, Baylor's Sheila Lambert and Danielle Crockrom and Oklahoma's Stacey Dales and LaNeishea Caufield. All four are on the Naismith Award watch list and the Big 12 coaches selected Crockrom, Lambert and Dales as preseason all-Big 12.

THE LADY BEARS...
Baylor, 13-1, 1-1, dropped five spots to No. 12 in the Associated Press poll after losing at Kansas State on Saturday, Jan. 5. The Lady Bears started the season ranked No. 14. In addition, they dropped to No. 11 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches' Poll.

Fourteen games into the season the Lady Bears are led by all-American candidates seniors Sheila Lambert (Seattle, Wash./Chief Sealth HS) and Danielle Crockrom (Houston/North Shore HS). Lambert leads the way with 17.8 points per game, while Crockrom follows at 17.2. Crockrom leads the team in rebounding at 9.9 an outing. Senior post Brooke McCormack (Melbourne, Australia) follows at 5.5, and sophomore Chanelle Fox (Houston/Westfield HS) averages 5.3.

THE OPPOSITION...
Oklahoma Sooners
The Oklahoma Sooners, winners of two consecutive Big 12 titles, come into the game with a No. 4 national ranking, a 13-1 overall record and are 3-0 in Big 12 action. Their lone loss came at No. 1 Connecticut 86-72 in a nationally televised game. Oklahoma has made two straight NCAA Sweet 16 appearances.

Four Sooner starters are scoring in double digits. Senior guard LaNeishea Caufield leads the way at 19.9 a game, senior guard Stacey Dales checks in at 14.9, junior forward Caton Hill 12.8 and senior guard Rosalind Ross scores 12.7. The squad's fifth starter, Jamie Talbert, is just under the double digit mark at 9.1. Hill leads the team on the boards with 6.7 a game and Ross follows with 5.9.

THE COACHES...
Baylor's Kim Mulkey-Robertson is in her second year as a head coach after guiding the Lady Bears to a 21-9 record and the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament in her inaugural season. The Lady Bears enjoyed tremendous improvement last season over Baylor's 7-20 record of 1999-2000. Her career record is 34-10 (.772).

Oklahoma is coached by Sherri Coale. She is in her sixth season as the Sooners' head coach and has taken them to two NCAA Tournaments and the WNIT. Oklahoma is 94-70 (.573) in her six seasons at Oklahoma.

SERIES RECORD...
This will be the 14th meeting between the two schools and Oklahoma leads the series 9-4 and are winners of the last six games. Baylor's last victory over the Sooners cam on Jan. 14, 1998 in Waco 97-67.

LAST YEAR...
The two teams met twice last season, once on each team's home court. The Sooners, ranked No. 17 at the time, posted a narrow 90-87 victory in Waco. When the two teams met in Norman Oklahoma, the Sooners were ranked No. 8 and posted a 10-point win 86-76.

SISTER ACT...
Dewey and Kathryn Selmon won't know who to cheer for on Saturday or where to sit. The couple has a daughter on each team. Shannon Selmon, a 6-1 senior forward, plays for the Sooners and Lauren, a 5-11 freshman forward, suits up for the Lady Bears. Shannon has appeared in nine games and is averaging 10.2 minutes and 0.9 points a game. Lauren has played in 11 games for the Lady Bears and averages 7.3 minutes and 2.4 points a game. They're pretty even on the boards, Lauren averges 1.8 while Shannon pulls down 1.9. A third Selmon daughter, Megan, plays basketball for Trinity University in San Antonio.
