Waco - Baylor's Big 12 Conference women's basketball game against two-time league champion Oklahoma on Jan. 12, 2002, has been sold out, Associate Athletic Director Darryl Lehnus announced Friday.
"We are excited that through the efforts of our volunteers and the Waco community, we have been able to achieve something that's never been accomplished here before, back-to-back Saturday sellouts of our men's and women's basketball games," Lehnus said." "This game is an excellent opportunity for Baylor, in front of a huge television audience, to demonstrate the fan support it receives from the students and community of Waco."
The Jan. 12 game, between No. 4 Oklahoma and No. 12 Baylor, is part of Baylor's "Sellout 2002, Back-2-Back" program. The first part of the program, the Baylor men's game against Iowa State on Jan. 5, was a sellout as well.
Saturday's game will be telecast live from the Ferrell Center by Fox Sports Net Southwest at 3 p.m. CST.
The record for the largest Ferrell Center crowd for a women's basketball game was set on Mar. 24, 1998 when 10,057 attended Baylor's WNIT Championship game against Penn State.
Sellout 2002 has been fueled by a grassroots effort of local businesspersons, grouped in committees. The chairman for the women's campaign committee is Debbie Keel of Southwestern Bell in Waco, while Johnny Mankin of Time-Warner Cable in Waco chaired the men's committee.
