Baylor freshman Armando Carrascosa lost his first round match in the junior division of the US Open on Monday. The US Open is held at the USTA National Tennis Center in New York City.

Carrascosa, ranked 124th nationally, lost to the USA's Travis Rettenmaier, 6-4, 6-3. Carrascosa, a native of Calexico, Calif., represented Mexico in the tournament by virtue of his dual citizenship.

Carrascosa and his doubles partner, Derrick Bauer, will participate in the doubles portion of the junior draw on Tuesday.

"This was a wonderful experience for Armando in the elite junior event. Tournaments like this are a yardstick for us in recruiting. Individuals like Armando, who qualify to participate in these grand slam events, are the type of individuals that will help us get to where we want to go," said Baylor head men's tennis coach Matt Knoll. "Also, it was a wonderful chance for Armando to be in the same lockerroom with the stars of the tour like Pete Sampras," Knoll added.
