WACO, Texas - Baylor's cross country team will travel to Auburn, Ala. to compete in the Auburn Invitational Saturday, Sept. 29. The race will take place at the Indian Pines Golf Course. The men will run 8,000m beginning at 8:30 a.m., and the women will follow with a 5,000m run at 9:30 a.m.
The field of competitors will consist of 31 teams on the men's side and 35 teams on the women's side. Top teams include 21st-ranked Alabama in the men's race, and South Florida and Wichita State in the women's race. Both USF and WSU received votes in the latest cross country national polls.
Baylor is coming off a highly successful weekend as both the men's and women's teams ran to first place finishes at the Baylor Invitational. The wins marked the second meet in a row that both the men and women took top honors. BU's teams also finished first at the UTA Season Opener on Sept. 8.
The women have been lead by senior Kara Newton in 2001 as she has yet to finish lower then third in a race this season. For the men Matt Chance and Ferenc Bekesi have been pacing the squad. Both Chance and Bekesi have finished in the top-five in each race this year.
